Personalisation
In the past people with a learning disability did not get to choose how or when they used services. Now we want people to have that choice. This is called personalisation. This page tells you how we are trying to do this.

What is happening around the country?
In 2007 the Government wrote a report called 'Putting People First'. This report says that everyone who works in adult social care must work together.
They want people to be able to choose the services that they want, and to get them when they want, how they want.
This is called personalisation. It means looking at the person first, not the services we can offer.

What is happening in Walsall?
We have a team of people working with service users, carers and staff to look at new ways of working. We call this our 'People First Programme'.

They will look at how we can make things better in Walsall. This will include:
  • improving how we share information
  • making it easier to get in touch with us
  • deciding who will provide the care that people want
  • improving how we work with the voluntary and third sectors.
